Vision

SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

History

In 2011, the Michigan State University (MSU) Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Chapter nearly went extinct but the advisor, Kyle Foster, assisted in the construction of MSU SHPE. Beginning with only two paid members, Jose Carmona and Ruben Valencia grew the membership of the organization and amended the bylaws.

In 2016, the chapter has proudly created and completed its first strategic plan and SWOT analysis. From July 1, 2016 to January 1st, 2017, the MSU SHPE chapter was able to plan, host, and execute 18 events geared around recruitment, retention, and post graduation success. With a heavy influence of corporate partnership informational sessions in the beginning of the semester to align with MSU’s career fairs and ending with a 401 K workshop for our December graduates and those who have already begun to accept their offers for full time.

“The engineer has been, and is, a maker of history.”

James Kip Finch, American engineer and educator
